Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were filled with love and laughter and you took time to sharpen the saw with family and friends. It’s wonderful to be back at school as the students bring a high level of energy and excitement to the campus.

The new year is a great time to make resolutions and set goals to be the best leaders we can be. Students will be setting midyear goals at school this week. Have you considered setting goals at home with your child? This is a great way to incorporate the 7 habits into your home. Try it! Send me a picture of how your family sets goals for the new year at  I would love to hear from you. With your permission, I will post them on our school website!

Thank you for pulling to the curb when picking up and dropping off your child at school. Please help us eliminate the double and triple parking. Students cannot be seen walking between cars. Parents and students need to use the crosswalks located at Bledsoe and Dronfield. We want to keep everyone safe as well as model safety for our children.

How does SLA utilize technology to support student learning?

K-2 grade students have access to Smarty Ants. This is a program that teaches and reinforces foundational reading skills to promote primary-grade literacy success so students emerge as confident, capable readers ready for the challenges of second grade and beyond. Students have access from home. Communicate with your child’s teacher for log in information.

BURST Program is offered to First Grade students to support foundational skills and reading.

Achieve 3000 Grades 6-8 to support reading, ALEKS Grades 6-8 to support mathematics. Students enrolled in these programs have access from home. Communicate with your child’s teacher for log on information.

In addition, students in grades 3-8 take reading and math assessments online for the units they are studying. A large number of teachers give students access to the following online (FREE) websites for students to practice their skills in reading, math, and typing: (Math) (Reading) (Math & Reading) (Typing) (Typing)

I recommend taking the time to look at these sites and having your child engage in the activities. This will support their learning as well as extend their learning beyond the classroom. It will also prepare students for the online state assessments (SBAC).  For SBAC Practice tests, go to the following link:
